Tineke Postma is an internationally acknowleged activejazzsaxophonist. During her college years at theConservatory of Amsterdam, she received two scolarshipsto study at the Manhattan School for Music in New York,where she was taught by Dick Oatts, David Liebman andChris Potter. In 2003, Tineke gratuaded with Honors at theConservatory of Amsterdam, where she has been teachingsince 2005. Tineke plays energetic, modern jazz and isinspired by Wayne Shorter, Cannonball Adderly, JohnColtrane, Miles Davis and other great legends, withoutignoring her own creativity. The British Newspaper “TheEvening Standard” called Tineke in 2009 “One of theleading ladies in Jazz”!
AWARDSTineke has received several awards for her remarkablecompositions and artistry, among which the Jazz JuanRevelations Award in 2009 (Antibes Juan-les-Pins JazzFestival). In 2006, Tineke won the prestigious Midem“International Jazz Revelation of the Year Award” inFrance, which she received during an award ceremony “LesVictoires de Jazz” that had been broadcasted live andnationwide on the French tv, channel France 3. In 2003Tineke received the “Jazz All Star Award” (USA) Tinekealso received several Dutch awards: “Langs de Lijn Award”(2007), “Singer Laren Jazz Award” (2002),”HeijmansAward” (2004). In 2008, Tineke had been nominated foranother prestigious Dutch Prize: the “Notenkraker Award”.For two years in a row, 2009 and 2010, Tineke wasnominated for the “Paul Acket Award” (North Sea Jazz).
TINEKE POSTMA QUARTETThe Tineke Postma Quartet (Marc van Roon on piano,Frans van der Hoeven on bass and Martijn Vink on drums)was founded in 2002 and has played at many internationalfestivals, like North Sea Jazz (Netherlands) , MiddelheimFestival, Antwerp (Belgium), Nice Jazz Festival (France) ,Victoria Jazz Festival (Spain), Young Euro Jazz Berlin(Germany), Pori Jazz Festival (Finland), Trondheim JazzFestival (Norway), Molde Jazz Festival (Norway) , theJakarta Jazz Festival (Indonesia), Yokohama Jazz Festival(Japan), the Hanoi Jazz Festival (Vietnam), and Euro JazzFestival (Mexico).
TINEKE POSTMA INTERNATIONAL QUARTETThe Tineke Postma International Quartet with Geri Allen onpiano, Scott Colley on bass and Terri Lyne Carrington ondrums, was founded in February 2009, when Tinekerecorded her new cd “The Traveller”. Tineke performed withthe above mentioned musicians at the Barbican Hall inLondon, The North Sea Jazz Festival and at JazzRamatuelle in France. PROJECTSIn 2003, Tineke performed with the Sisters in Jazz Projectin the Mary Lou Williams Jazz Festival in Washington, IAJEin Long Beach (all of them USA), as well as at the NorthSea Jazz (Netherlands) , Jazz Vienne (France) andUmbria Jazz (Italy). In 2005, Tineke participated in the“Billie and Me” project, a musical tribute to Billie Holiday withTerri Lyne Carrington, Nancy Wilson, Dianne Reeves andJoan Osnborne . They toured throughout the USA andplayed at the Carnegie Hall (New York), Kennedy Center(Washington), UCLA Royce Hall (Los Angeles), OrchestraHall (Chicago), Byham Theatre ( Pittsburgh, EisenhowerAuditorium-Penn State (University park). Tineke joined theinternational tour of the Terri Lyne Carrington Group (GeriAllen, Esperanza Spalding, Matthey Garrisson, ea). Theyplayed at the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat,( Israel),Beantown Jazz Festival in Boston (US) , the InternationalJazz Festival, in Münster (Germany), at Ronnie Scott’s,London (UK), Tokyo Jazz Festival and in the Blue Note inTokyo (Japan) .In 2009 Tineke was asked to join the GeriAllen Trio (The Hague Jazz Festival)Tineke was also guestsoloist with Esperanza Spalding at the Bimhuis(Amsterdam, Netherlands) in 2008, at the North Sea JazzRotterdam (Netherlands) in 2009 and at the Carnegie Hall,New York, (US) in 2009. In her home country (TheNetherlands), Tineke worked with the free jazz Dutchdrummer legend Han Bennink and Bassist Ernst Glerum. Atother concerts, organised by “Jazzimpuls” Tinekeperformed with Fleurine (“Tribute to Duke Ellington”) AnneChris and the Turkish native singer Esra Dalfidan. Tinekeperformed with Esperanza Spalding at the North Sea JazzFestival (Rotterdam), Carnegie Hall (New York), TheBimhuis (Amsterdam).Tineke tours regularly with the Frenchpianist Cdric Handriot and the Dutch pianist Jazper van’tHof (Pilipili-project). Tineke also plays regularly withdrummer Pablo Pietro In Mexico.
