About the Album
“Si Tu Vois Ma Mère” is a song made popular by Sidney Bechet, an American jazz legend from New Orleans who moved to France to escape racial discrimination in the United States. The piece, composed in 1941, is one of Bechet’s most iconic works a nostalgic and melancholic instrumental that perfectly captures his lyrical clarinet style. Often associated with Paris, it evokes longing, tenderness, and the spirit of a bygone era. Believed to be inspired by thoughts of his mother, the song became an emblem of Bechet’s deep emotional expression and connection to home.
Sidney Bechet went on to become one of the first jazz musicians to be truly revered internationally, and his move to Paris inspired later generations of artists including Josephine Baker and Miles Davis — to seek artistic freedom and appreciation in Europe.
